Meteor shower expected in Egypt

Head of the Department of Astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical Research, Ashraf Tadres, said a meteor shower is expected over Egypt in the coming days, adding that it will reach its peak on Tuesday evening.

The phenomenon will continue until early August, he added.

The meteors can be seen when they are burnt in the upper layers of the atmosphere, nearly 100 kilometers away from the Earth's surface, Tadres said. The phenomenon can be observed from highlands, plains, and agricultural land, especially with little moonlight, Tadres added.

The best time to see the phenomenon is from midnight until dawn, when as many as 15 to 20 meteors per hour can be seen.
