Twitter users are commemorating the fourth anniversary of the Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes on Wednesday (#Mohamed_Mahmod), posting a list with the names of the martyrs entitled “Glory to the Martyrs”.
The incidents started when some political movements rallied for demonstrations on November 18, 2011 to demand the transfer of power from the military council to a civilian government, but clashes erupted when police tried to forcefully disperse them the next day, killing 10 people and injuring more than 1,700 others.
The clashes continued until November 25 when Field Marshal Mohamed Tantawi, the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, said that he accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf’s Cabinet, and that the presidential elections would take place no later than June 2012.
Following this incident, Kamal al-Ganzouri was assigned to form a new government.
