Monday peak of bad weather wave across Egypt

Egypt’s weather will see severe fluctuations in Cairo, Alexandria, and other governorates, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned, adding the peak of the current bad weather wave is Monday.

A wave of bad weather including rain and severe drops in temperature is expected until the end of the week.

Monday’s weather in Alexandria is expected to be cold during the day in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, and the governorates of Lower Egypt and the cities of the northern coasts and northern Upper Egypt.

Cold weather is predicted in South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt, and very cold weather at night in across the country.

In a statement, the EMA said that it predicts medium to heavy thunderstorms on the northwestern coasts of Alexandria and Matruh governorates. Its intensity will decrease on the northeastern coasts, the cities of the Suez Canal, the Gulf of Suez and Sinai.

Rain will extend to areas of the governorates of Cairo, Giza and northern Upper Egypt.

Satellite images showed the proliferation of low to medium clouds over Matruh and areas of the Western Desert, which is expected to cause moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms at times. It will extend to the rest of the northwestern coasts and northern Lower Egypt governorates during the night hours.

  • Cairo 17C
  • Matrouh 18C
  • Alexandria, Minya 19
  • Qena, Luxor, Aswan 21C
  • Hurghada 22C

Egypt is undergoing an atmospheric depression that will affect the northern regions, so that heavy rain and thunderstorms will fall in the northern governorates of Lower Egypt, a member of the Media Center of the EMA Manar Ghane said.

Ghanem added that the rainfall extends from Matrouh Governorate to areas of Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr al-Sheikh, and the south of Upper Egypt. It extends to the cities of the Suez Canal and the northeastern coasts, and reaches the governorates of Greater Cairo, and northern Upper Egypt.

The weather will improve beginning from Tuesday, she assured, however relatively active winds will continue between 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, increasing the feeling of coldness.

A slight rise in temperatures is predicted at the end of the week, she said.
