The public transport workers' strike expanded as workers at several bus garages in Cairo joined on the second day.
On Monday workers at the Teraa Bolaqiya, Amiriya and Nasr City stations said they will strike until their demands are fulfilled.
On Sunday, Public Transportation Authority drivers went on a partial strike, demanding higher wages, better healthcare and improved working conditions.
The authority's head, Mona Mostafa, summoned the strikers' representatives for negotiation, Al-Masry Al-Youm learned.
While hundreds of drivers, administrative clerks, technicians and conductors continued the partial strike, others suspended their protests to wait for results of the negotiations.
Some of the protesting workers accused the authority of squandering public funds, citing the bad conditions of buses which, they warned, endanger the lives of passengers and drivers.
The workers told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the authority profits from advertising and from selling scrap such as spare parts, but fails to repair garages or buses.
On Sunday, the Public Transportation Workers Syndicate failed to convince the workers to ignore the strike.
