Morsy: FJP rejects ‘consensus’ president

Mohamed Morsy, president of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, has said the party objects to the idea of a “consensus” president approved by all political forces.

“It is against the will of the people,” he said.

“The next president must bear the faith of the Egyptian majority and respect the Islamic Sharia.”

Morsy also said his party is willing to form the next government, at the same time denying that he called for the resignation of Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri’s cabinet.

According to Morsy, the party is preparing a proposal for the constituent assembly that would be tasked with writing the new constitution to include 40 members of Parliament, 30 members from outside Parliament to be elected by Parliament, and 30 other members not to be elected by Parliament, so that the assembly would truly represent all segments of society.
