Most Egyptian women use IUD for family planning

Most Egyptian women use the intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control, said head of the Egyptian Family Planning Association Salah Helmy Fahmy in a statement Tuesday.

When comparing methods between the age group between 15 and 49 years old, thirty percent of Egyptian women use IUDs, 16 percent use contraceptive pills and 9 percent use injection.

Sixty-four percent of women in Lower Egypt use family planning methods, which is higher than women in Upper Egypt, said Fahmy.

Fifty-nine percent of illiterate women use family planning methods, compared to 68 percent of women who have secondary school and university degrees and 50 percent of women who have lower education degrees.

Fahmy advised women to use the family planning method suitable to their social class, age and health condition and to carry out periodical examinations.
