Moussa, Aboul Gheit call for Arab support of Lebanon’s president

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Wednesday called for Arab support of Lebanese President Michel Suleiman to enable him to resolve the crisis of his government.
"The president is constitutionally mandated to address these matters,” Moussa said in a joint press conference with Aboul Gheit in Sharm el-Sheikh.

He rejected foreign interference in Lebanon’s crisis, in possible warning to Turkey’s intervention to help resolve the crises.

“The situation in Lebanon is becoming more and more fragile,” he added, calling on the Lebanese officials to remain cautious.

For his part, Aboul Gheit said coming days will reveal that the Arab League and its secretary general will need to play a greater role in Lebanon. “The Lebanese president should be given a chance to work on achieving a consensus between the Lebanese factions,” he stated.
