The blaze at the Suez Company for Petroleum Manufacturing is an example of the government's lack of concern for the safety of Egyptians working on industrial sites, said former Arab League Secretary General and presidential hopeful Amr Moussa.
On Thursday, Moussa wrote on Twitter that the state should guarantee the safety of all Egyptians.
The fire ignited on Wednesday inside the petroleum plant, leaving five dead and several injured. Reports of how many employees were injured has varied.
Moussa offered his condolences to the victims’ families and called on the company, as well as the Petroleum Ministry, to provide the best care possible for those injured.
The fire ignited when one of the company’s sinks for separating oils exploded, according to state-owned news agency MENA.
