Former President Hosni Mubarak participated in a phone-in interview Sunday evening on the satellite channel Sada al-Balad on the 33rd anniversary of the Liberation of Sinai.
During the 15 minute-interview, Mubarak called on Egyptians to support President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
"Happy anniversary to Egypt, its army, its people and its leadership. April 25 for me is a day where I feel as proud as every Egyptian fighter and soldier who had the honor of serving in the Egyptian army," Mubarak said.
"I spent many years rebuilding the Air Force, training and graduating consecutive batches of pilots until President Sadat made the historic decision to cross the (Suez Canal) and we managed to break the myth of the invincible enemy," he added.
"The day President Anwar al-Sadat was (killed) by terrorists, I felt a great responsibility and I was afraid that Israel would seize the opportunity to divest itself of the peace treaty."
"I pushed back Israel's attempts until withdrawal took place on April 25," Mubarak mentioned.
"We all have to work. No president can work on his own. Although I am confident in President Sisi's wisdom, each Egyptian has to support him to get through this difficult stage."
"Media has a great responsibility and it has to clarify to youth the challenges we are experiencing and the reality of our history," Mubarak said.
Mubarak was ousted following an uprising on January 25, 2011 forcing him to step down on February 11. He was referred to trial over charges of killing protesters and financial corruption. He was sentenced to three years in prison in May 2014 over financial corruption charges, but the sentence was dropped by Egypt's high court. He was acquitted of conspiring to kill protesters in November 2014.
