My husband and I sewed one suit, one dress a year: Jihan Sadat

The wife of late President Anwar al-Sadat, Jihan al-Sadat, revealed in an interview with host Mona al-Shazly that she and her husband used to sew only one dress and suit a year.

"I usually bought clothes from the wholesale markets in European cities when I traveled abroad, contrary to what was alleged by some people that I bought brand clothes from the finest shops," said Sadat.

Sadat added that she used to buy the clothes and sew them at a famous tailor in Cairo.

Sadat said her husband was keen to accompany her to the tailor to give her his opinion on the clothing.

She added that the late president used to sew his suits at a tailor and did not buy brand suits.

Sadat also said that she has "not received my husband's military pension for over 15 years."

When Shazly asked Sadat about the reason, she said: "Nobody has sent anything, and I was never going to ask for it."
Two books written by the late president will be published on the anniversary of the 6 October War victory next week. The two books are "The Revolution Secrets" and "Oh Son, This is Your Uncle Gamal", referring to late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, according to Sadat.

The interview will be aired Thursday on CBC channel.
