Chairman of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) Islam Abul Magd said Tuesday that the Egyptian government pays big attention to precision agriculture with the aim to narrow the food gap in the country.
NARSS supports research and innovations that aim to enhance the quality and quantity of food, Abul Magd said during the inauguration of the third African International Conference on Precision Agriculture in Egypt.
Besides Egypt, the conference opened simultaneously in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa.
The three-day conference is held under the auspices of Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour with the aim to review advanced techniques used to upgrade the agriculture sector, Abul Magd said. He cited smart agriculture systems, remote sensing and artificial intelligence, all of which contribute to achieving sustainable agricultural development in Egypt and Africa.
Agriculture is a key factor in efforts to achieve food security, Abul Magd told the gathering.
