On Saturday a coalition of Egyptain political groups said it was holding to its request to expel the Israeli ambassador to Egypt, due to the killing of six Egyptian military and security personnel by Israeli military forces on Thursday in Sinai.
The National Association for Change (NAC), which includes 22 political groups, will march on Tuesday toward Arish in Sinai in order to emphasize that the people support the armed forces' defense of the nation.
The NAC called on the ruling Supreme Council for Armed Forces (SCAF) and the Egyptian government to expel the Israeli ambassador and recall Egypt's from Tel Aviv. It also called to reconsider the 1979 peace accord signed between the two countries guaranteeing Egypt's sovereignty over Sinai and halt natural gas exports to Israel.
Ahmed Darrag, the NAC's deputy general coordinator, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the association “is planning a march on Tuesday to Arish city, North Sinai, located near the border with Israel. The march will be launched from Cairo, Suez and other places. It will include figures from various political, popular and youth groups.”
Darrag explained the aim of the march will be to show that the new Egypt knows how to preserve its rights and dignity.
Zeyad al-Eleimy, member of the Revolution Youth Coalition, said the situation requires revising the Camp David Accords, which limit Egypt's military presence along the border with Israel, as they are inhibiting the maintenance of security in Sinai.
Also on Saturday, Egypt's cabinet announced its ambassador would be recalled from Israel, but after a few hours clarified that that was just a draft decision.
Eleimy said backtracking from that statement proved that the prime minister was still under pressure from the SCAF, as it was clear that the initial statement was issued by the cabinet and rejected by the ruling military council.
