The National Council for Human Rights called on the Cabinet and the Supreme Council of Universities to provide places in university-affiliated hospitals for prisoners that need critical care, especially those detained in Damanhour Prison.
The report called for the move after a committee affiliated to the council visited Damanhour's women prison.
The council said it is also coordinating with the Prisons Sector and Human Rights Sector of the Interior Ministry to provide lawyers for prisoners who have no legal representation.
The council issued a report following the visit, referring to a number of prisoners who praised the prison's authorities for their treatment and care to them and their infants in the prison.
The report, however, criticized the overcrowding of cells, the feeding schedule and the quantities of food in the meals provided.
