NCHR receives complaints about forced disappearances

The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) has received 55 complaints about forced disappearances.

Sources said the council met with the families of the missing and decided to form a permanent committee to follow-up on the issue, as these incidents violate the Constitution and the international covenants on human rights.

Council member Kamal Abbas said the complaints contained specific names, addresses and times, adding that most cases involved political activists and persons affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood.

“We will send them to the Prosecutor General and the Interior Ministry for response,” he said. “For in the case of arrest, a defendant should be investigated and brought to trial within 24 hours.”
