Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed on Thursday announced that 95 percent of coronavirus deaths in Egypt are associated with chronic diseases.

Zayed appealed to coronavirus patients with chronic diseases to seek out necessary medical services and medications. She added that medical convoys will be sent to different neighborhoods and villages to examine residents.

On Thursday, Zayed held a conference with Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal and Giza Governor Ahmed Rashid to review developments regarding coronavirus infections in the two governorates, which have the highest infection rates in Egypt.

All three officials made reference to medical convoys that distribute medicine to home-quarantine cases and their contacts.

Zayed stressed that preventive and medical supplies are available in hospitals, as are medicines for the virus.

Quarantine hospitals in various governorates continue to provide medical services for the cases, in accordance to updated treatment protocols, according to Zayed.

The Beni Suef Health Directorate on Thursday announced the death of Dr. Nabila Abdel Hamid, a doctor at the Beni Suef Central Hospital, who died while caring for her infected mother.

The villages of al-Arawa and Abdel Qader Qebly near Alexandria were sanitized by authorities after positive cases were confirmed in the two villages.

The total number of COVID-19 deaths has now reached 1,938 nationwide, after announcing 88 deaths Thursday.
