Egypt’s Nour al-Din Zaki won two medals on Monday in the weightlifting competitions at the 2026 Mediterranean Games held in Taranto, Italy.
The Egyptian weightlifter won gold in the snatch and silver in the clean and jerk in the 65 kg weightlifting competition.
The Pharaohs have so far won 38 medals at the Mediterranean Games, placing Egypt in contention with the leading nations and maintaining its position at the top of the Arab countries with 12 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games is currently being held in Taranto, Italy, and will continue until September 3, with the participation of 3,803 athletes from 26 countries.
The Egyptian delegation is competing in 23 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, equestrian, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padelling, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming and amateur roller skating.
Egypt ranks sixth on the list of countries with the most medals in the history of the Mediterranean Games, with a total of 620 medals of various types, including 156 gold medals, 209 silver medals and 255 bronze medals.
