Kafr al-Sheikh Governor Mohamed Ezzat Agwa said on Wednesday that offers of the international bid to exploit the tar sands of the governorate would be reviewed this month.
The tar sands extend from Borg al-Brolos to Motobas on the international coastal road. “It is rich with radioactive and industrial materials,” Agwa said, adding that five local and international companies submitted offers, including the Arab Contractors Company, an Emirati company and an Egyptian-Arab investment company.
“We will choose the company that can best extract the raw materials and at the same time protect the environment,” he explained, adding that the Nuclear Energy Authority is handling the technical and scientific part of the project.
