Official: Egypt to reject foreign offers for Mubarak medical expenses

Egypt would reject foreign offers to cover the medical expenses of former President Hosni Mubarak, a health ministry official said Tuesday.

Assistant Health Minister Abdul Hamid Abaza said the ministry has not yet received bills for Mubarak's treatment in a Sharm el-Sheikh hospital.

A Health Ministry official told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Monday that the ministry and Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital had received many calls from Saudi and Emirati sheikhs and princes offering to pay Mubarak's medical expenses.

Any external offers to cover the costs of Mubarak's treatment would be rejected, Abaza said.

He said when the bills are received, they will be kept confidential and sent to the attorney general to decide who will pay for them.

Abaza said former First Lady Suzanne Mubarak ended her medical treatment, but her bills have not yet been sent to the ministry.

He said both of their expenses would be announced at a later date.
