Official Giza Zoo statement sheds light on reports of poor animal health

The National Alliance for the Development of the Giza Zoo and al-Orman Garden affirmed its full commitment to implementing the highest international standards in veterinary care, utilizing specialized local and international expertise.

This came in an official statement issued by the alliance, led by the Military Production Company for Projects and Hadayeiq Company, in response to recent reports regarding the mistreatment of some animals at the Giza Zoo.

The statement added that several animals were received in varying health conditions, according to technical reports from the relevant authorities.

Some cases were treatable, while others suffered incurable infectious diseases. This therefore necessitated internationally recognized euthanasia mechanisms and standards to protect the remaining animals, workers, and visitors.

The alliance confirmed that all procedures are carried out in accordance with the latest international standards and under the supervision of specialized experts.

This was confirmed by the African Zoo Association after approving the first phase of the development project and sending a letter of congratulations to the Minister of Agriculture on its success.

The Minister of Agriculture thanked the Minister of Military Production, announcing the start of the second phase, which includes the construction of new animal houses under the supervision of the African Zoo Association.

Giza Zoo development ongoing

The Giza Zoo received a committee from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services Authority, headed by Hamed al-Aqnas, Chairman of the Authority.

The committee listened to a presentation regarding development and the procedures followed for animal care and feeding.

It was also emphasized that any decision regarding the disposal of animals must be made with the Authority’s approval and under its direct supervision.

The meeting also saw an agreement to expedite the procedures for importing 362 new animals from abroad, in addition to supporting zoos across the nation with animals from the Giza Zoo’s surplus stock.
