Official: Security forces to be allowed on campus only if protests turn violent

Media professor and spokesperson for the University of Cairo Adel Abdel Ghaffar said a protocol has been agreed on between the Supreme Council of Universities and the Ministry of Interior for the security of universities.

The protocol states that police forces would be stationed outside universities and would be allowed on campus only in case protests turned violent, Abdel Ghaffar said.

This solution ensures a balance between all opinions, he added.

For concerns about the spread of swine flu, Abdel Ghaffar said during a phone-in with Sada al-Balad Channel, Friday, that the Ministry of Health inspected university dormitories and were sterilized as well as restaurants.

A committee was formed to supervise hygiene in universities, he pointed out.
