Controversial talk show host Tawfiq Okasha, owner of the private Al-Faraeen satellite channel, was acquitted on charges of defaming the president on Monday.
The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court also threw out the lawsuit against Okasha that was filed by lawyer Ramadan Abdel Basset.
The charges were filed against Okasha after he went on air to accuse President Mohamed Morsy of losing his legitimacy by issuing an illegal constitutional declaration last November. In another program, Okasha also said that the president was allowing murder to occur in the country, and that he believed the Muslim Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie was truly running the country.
