The Opera House will host three concerts in the coming week at its branches in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour in commemoration of deceased musician Fareed al-Attrash (1910-1974).
Led by maestro George Beshry, the Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music and Arab Singing will perform in the concerts, the first of which will be held on 23 December at Alexandria’s Sayyed Darwish Theater. The second concert will be held on 24 December at Damanhour’s Opera House.
The performances will wrap up on the 26th, the date of al-Attrash's death, at the Gomhouriyya Theatre in Cairo.
Al-Attrash is said to have started singing at the age of 15 and soon began working with his sister Asmahan. Al-Attrash sang lyrics of well-known poets such as Beiram al-Tonsi, Morsi Gameel Azeez, Hussein al-Sayyed and Kamel al-Shennawi.
A talented composer, he performed with many artists, including Sabah, Nour al-Houda, Moharram Fouad and Warda.
