Opera House head banned from travel over corruption investigation

The head of the Cairo Opera House was prevented from flying out of the Cairo airport Thursday, as the public prosecution is investigating accusations of corruption related to the management of the institution.

Airport authorities prevented Abdel Moneim Kamel, who was heading to Germany, from boarding the plane because he has been placed on a travel ban list, said airport security sources.

When in office, former Culture Minister Emad Abu Ghazi had formed a committee to receive complaints from staff members of the Opera House regarding management issues and squandering of institution funds.

When current Culture Minister Shaker Abdel Hamid assumed responsibility of committee, he referred these complaints to the public prosecution office for investigation.
