Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo Wednesday to discuss inter-Palestinian reconciliation with Egyptian officials.
Abbas and a senior delegation of Palestinian officials plan to meet with members of the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces as well as Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, said Barakat al-Farra, the Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt.
Al-Farra said Abbas will also meet Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed al-Tayyeb, Coptic Pope Shenouda III and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
Abbas' four-day visit to Cairo is his first since the 25 January revolution, which toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi said on Tuesday that Egypt is making serious efforts to achieve reconciliation between the Fatah and Hamas movements.
Al-Arabi also said Egypt will receive another delegation from Hamas next week, adding that Egypt will continue to push for Palestinian reconciliation.
