Petroleum workers association in solidarity with striking gas sector

An association of petroleum workers has voiced their solidarity with the striking workers of the Egyptian state gas company, who are protesting against changes to their company’s promotions scheme.

Workers from Egypt Gas are continuing their strike for the tenth consecutive day across the country, to protest against changes which, the say, have widened the gap between different job grades and delayed their promotion for eight years.

The Egyptian Federation of Petroleum Workers said it fully supports the strike, until the workers demands are met.

“The federation is calling on the Minister of Petroleum and all ministry institutions to unify the regulations for all workers in the sector as a basic, permanent demand for equality and social justice,” the federation said in a statement.

The federation urged the ministry to deal with independent unions gathering workers in the petroleum and natural gas sectors as “their real and actual representatives”.
