PM: Access to clean water one of basic human rights

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said Sunday on 13/10/2024 that access to clean water and sanitation are essential human rights that require adopting strategies focused on boosting investment, and capacity building, promoting innovation and evidence-based work along with strengthening coordination and cooperation among all sectors and stakeholders.

The premier also called for adopting a more integrated and comprehensive approach to water management, within a trans-boundary context.

Madbouly made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of

seventh edition of Cairo Water Week 2024, which kicked off earlier in the day under the theme of “Water and Climate: Building Resilient Communities”.

“I welcome you all to the seventh Cairo Water Week,” Madbouly said, adding that the event coincides with the ninth African Water Week.

Madbouly said that the link between water and climate change is a close one, as climate change affects water in complex ways, whether regarding the impact on unpredictable rainfall patterns or rising sea levels.

He added that climate change exacerbates water scarcity and risks the occurrence of extreme weather conditions like floods and droughts, making them more severe.
