PM chairs 1st 2026 cabinet meet, pushes for telecom manufacturing localization

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2026, the first weekly cabinet meeting of 2026 Tuesday at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The session focused on a strategic push for domestic manufacturing, specifically within the telecommunications sector, alongside updates on regional diplomacy and national development projects.

Madbouly opened the session by extending his greetings to Coptic Christian citizens, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of Christmas.

Reflecting on his recent meeting with Pope Tawadros II at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, Madbouly said the “national and social role” of the Orthodox Church in fostering citizenship and brotherhood among all Egyptians was very vital.

The cabinet reviewed recent high-level diplomatic activity led by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, including discussions with the Saudi Foreign Minister centered on intensifying bilateral coordination regarding regional crises and political consultation.

The meeting was dedicated to the president’s directives to modernize Egypt’s telecommunications industry.

“The government is committed to expanding the localization of the telecommunications industry as part of a comprehensive national strategy,” Madbouly said.

Madbouly updated the cabinet on his recent field tour in Luxor, where he inspected Decent Life (Haya Karima) initiative projects.

The premier also lauded the modernization of the SEMAF Railway Factory.

He noted that the facility is a cornerstone of Egypt’s plan to localize transport manufacturing, which aims to boost the economy, save foreign currency, and open new avenues for export.

Rania al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, presented the National Narrative for Economic and Social Development.

The document, which resulted from two months of dialogue with over 100 economic experts, aims to align Egypt Vision 2030 with current global shifts.
