Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Wednesday dismissed the cabinet’s security chief for assaulting an assistant to Deputy Prime Minister Ali al-Selmy.
Tamer Amin, the cabinet’s top security agent, reportedly assaulted Amal Ramadan, Selmy's secretary, on Tuesday.
Sources said that the altercation occurred after Amin asked Ramadan to move aside for the prime minister, who was about to go to his office for a meeting.
The same sources said the officer yelled at Ramadan to step aside, to which she responded by telling him not to raise his voice. As Sharaf headed to his office, the officer allegedly came back and assaulted the secretary, prompting three security guards to intervene.
Following the incident, eyewitnesses said they would register a complaint about the officer to Sharaf.
