PM: Egypt ready for hosting int’l conf. on early recovery, reconstruction of Gaza

JOHANNESBURG, Nov 22 (MENA) – Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly confirmed Egypt’s readiness to host an international conference for the early recovery and reconstruction of the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, inviting the countries participating in the G20 Summit to actively participate in this important event.

He welcomed the UN Security Council’s adoption of a resolution related to the Gaza Strip on November 17.

Madbouly emphasized the importance of immediately starting the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to address the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip, through providing urgent humanitarian aid and promptly beginning the implementation of the early recovery and reconstruction plan, alongside working toward a just final settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.

This came in a speech he delivered on Saturday, at the session on “Inclusive and sustainable economic growth leaving no one behind: Building our economies,” at the G20 Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in the presence of several kings, presidents, and heads of state and government.

Madbouly began his speech by expressing his thanks and appreciation to the sisterly Republic of South Africa for its warm reception and excellent organization of this important international event, which Africa hosts for the first time.

He also expressed deep gratitude to South Africa’s G20 presidency and for its kind invitation to Egypt as a guest in this year’s G20 meetings, pointing to South Africa’s constructive role in leading the group’s activities and its ongoing support for the priorities of the African continent.

During the session, the prime minister explained that the present time is marked by unprecedented global challenges, making the role of the G20 central to addressing major global economic issues, foremost among them the reform of the world’s financial architecture to enhance its capacity to meet the developmental needs of developing countries.

In this regard, Madbouly stressed the importance of enhancing access to concessional financing through the creation of new financial systems, in addition to supporting the efficiency and effectiveness of existing mechanisms, as well as developing business models and increasing financing capabilities within international financial institutions and multilateral development banks.

He affirmed that broader representation of developing countries within the framework of global economic governance is of utmost importance.

The prime minister also pointed out in his speech the urgent need to reform the complex global debt system by launching new mechanisms for comprehensive and sustainable debt management that consider the conditions of low- and middle-income countries.

Madbouly further emphasized the importance of renewing international commitment to multilateralism and operating within a multilateral trading system based on governing rules, where the World Trade Organization plays a central role; thus contributing to boosting trade as a key driver of sustainable development and inclusive growth.

He noted the close link between peace and development as a well-established fact, highlighting the contribution of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit to ending the war in Gaza and opening new horizons towards a more stable, secure and prosperous Middle East region.

In conclusion, the premier expressed his hope that the summit will yield practical and constructive results that meet the aspirations of peoples for a better world. (MENA)
