Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government is adopting a gradual approach in decision-making to avoid placing additional burdens on citizens or disrupting daily life, while warning that prolonged regional tensions could require stricter measures to reduce energy and fuel consumption.
In his remarks at a press conference, Madbouly said that the government reviewed the regional situation and its economic impact, stressing that early steps were taken to secure the availability of goods and services during the Eid holiday. He added that markets remain stable, with sufficient supply and balanced prices, noting that recent increases in some commodities were temporary and are already easing.
The Premeir affirmed that Egypt continues diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis and limit its repercussions, pointing to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s recent visits to Gulf countries to express support and solidarity, and reaffirm that Egypt’s security is linked to the security of Gulf states.
Madbouly also said the rise in global energy prices has significantly increased the country’s import bill, making it necessary to reduce consumption while maintaining production and economic activity.
He noted that measures have been introduced to rationalize energy use, including earlier closing hours for commercial outlets, reduced government fuel use, and a temporary remote work system.
He added that the government will continue to take balanced steps based on developments, with the aim of maintaining stability and supporting economic activity despite ongoing challenges.
