PM: Parliamentary elections in May or June

Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb has said that elections for the House of Representatives will be held in May or June, two weeks after the Supreme Constitutional Court ruled that some clauses in the laws regulating the process were unconstitutional.

Mehleb made the remarks in an exclusive interview with BBC on Sunday.

The elections were initially slated for 22 March and were to unfold in two phases extending through early May.

The court, however, ruled with the unconstitutionality of the laws governing the candidacy of dual nationals and others demarcating electoral districts.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had asked for the review of the annulled law to be completed in a month.
