PM urges monitoring of strategic commodity reserves to curb price volatility

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday, May 26, 2025, called for continued monitoring of strategic reserves of essential commodities to ensure sufficient stock levels and help stabilize market prices.

Speaking at a meeting with ministers and senior officials, Madbouly emphasized the importance of securing long-term supplies of basic goods.

The meeting reviewed efforts to boost storage capacity through projects such as the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority’s grain silos, which aim to store up to 500,000 tons.

Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed al-Homsany said the discussion included initiatives to replace imports with locally grown strategic crops, particularly wheat, to strengthen food security and reduce dependency on global markets.
