The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party has criticized the ruling military council for deciding to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections using a mixed system of 50 percent list-based and 50 percent single winner candidacies.
The council's decision came after the majority of Egypt's political forces requested that only the list-based system be applied.
The party also said the proposed system will enable members of the Mubarak regime to run in the elections.
“The list system helps newly-formed parties to have representatives in parliaments,” said party secretary general Saad al-Katatny.
His colleague Mohamed al-Beltagy warned that the party could mobilize millions to protest against the decision.
Presidential candidate Ayman Nour, meanwhile, criticized the participation of members of the Mubarak regime in the meeting between the military council and political groups held on Sunday to discuss the elections.
Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi called on all parties to unite in coalitions in order to prevent former regime members from winning parliamentary seats.
