President al-Sisi, Japanese PM attend signing of MoUs

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi alongside Japanese PM Fumio Kishida attended, 30-4-2023, the signing ceremony of a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Egypt and Japan in several domains.

Under the MoUs, the two countries will cooperate in the fields of communication and information technology, legal and judicial affairs, the implementation of the first phase of Metro Line 4 alongside setting up partnership between the Ministry of International cooperation and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

This came following talks between president Sisi and Fumio at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace earlier in the day.

The Egyptian-Japanese summit talks have witnessed promoting relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership, in a move aimed at crowning the historic and profound relations between the two friendly nations, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.

The two sides probed means of boosting bilateral cooperation, especially in the spheres of investment and trade, education, health, information technology, transportation, renewable energy as well the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the spokesman said.

The talks took up the current efforts to uphold peace and security at the international level as well an exchange of views on several issues like the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, prohibition of nuclear weapons, fostering the multilateral diplomatic action and the reform of the United Nations and Security Council, the spokesman added.

The latest updates of a number of regional issues – like the Palestinian case and the Ethiopian Dam – were also discussed during the talks.

As for Sudan, the two leaders agreed on the necessity of achieving and maintaining the ceasefire, along with giving impetus to the political dialogue and completing the transitional stage.

Meanwhile, the Japanese prime minister hailed Egypt’s efforts to assist with the evacuation of the Japanese nationals in Sudan. He offered condolences over the death of a member of Egypt’s diplomatic mission while being in duty in Khartoum.

The Japanese prime minister is currently on a three-day visit to Egypt, the first leg of his four-nation Africa tour. (MENA)
