CAIRO, Nov 16 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Sunday the launch of the fifth edition of the AU Awareness Week on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) under the theme of “Rebuilding Lives after Conflict Through Separative Justice”.
The fifth edition will start on Monday and runs till November 23.
As the AU Champion for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, I am pleased to announce the launch of the fifth edition of the African Union PCRD Awareness Week, held on November 17-23 under the theme of “Rebuilding Lives After Conflict Through Restorative Justice”, President Sisi said in a statement.
President Sisi said Africa continues to face complex security and developmental challenges, including internal conflicts, terrorism, transnational crime, humanitarian crises, poverty and declining education levels, alongside emerging challenges such as climate change and advanced technologies.
He added that the continent remains among the most affected by global geopolitical tensions, which reinforce vulnerability and strain efforts to implement the AU’s ambitious strategies for stability, development and prosperity under Agenda 2063.
Despite these challenges, President Sisi said Africa is rich in resources and human capital and has made significant strides in mobilizing these assets to support peace, security and development.
He called for stronger solidarity and adopting comprehensive approaches that address the root causes of Africa’s challenges, with a central focus on post-conflict reconstruction and development and the implementation of the AU’s updated policy in this area.
This includes strengthening institutions, supporting national ownership of solutions, building human capacity, raising awareness of conflict risks, promoting inclusive development, and ensuring the participation of women and youth, while also pursuing justice for victims of conflict, he added.
He noted that the convocation of the fifth Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in October 2025 reflected Egypt’s vision of linking peace, security and development.
Sisi praised the work of the AU Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in Cairo, highlighting the programs it has carried out in several African countries to support stability, recovery, national capacity-building and public awareness.
He expressed his hope that these efforts would continue to meet the aspirations of African peoples for sustainable peace and security.
He also commended the African Union Commission for its role in supporting reconstruction and peace-building activities across the continent, reaffirming his personal commitment, in his capacity as AU Champion, to working with African leaders, the Commission, regional stakeholders and international partners to meet the continent’s legitimate aspirations and advance the objectives of Agenda 2063.
