Presidential candidate denounces demonstrators’ sit-ins

Presidential candidate Mohamed Selim al-Awa called on protesters staging sit-ins to return to their homes, so as not to disrupt peoples’ lives.

“Demonstrations can be held at certain times without disrupting production,” he said. “But sit-ins violate Islamic law."

"Islam forbids praying in the streets so as not to prevent others from doing their errands,“ he continued, “let alone sit-ins."

Awa took part in the 8 July demonstration that called for the expedition of trials of former Mubarak regime members accused of killing demonstrators during the 25 January revolution.
