Press group counts 60 violations against reporters in December

A press freedom advocacy group said it detected 60 violations against journalists throughout December.

In a report released on Monday, the Journalists Against Torture Observatory said the cases mentioned “do not represent a full count, but rather what the research center could highlight, assisted by field members.”

It pointed out that the month of December had seen the final phase of elections for the House of Representatives, when 21 violations were detected.

Prevention from coverage and the erasing of filming records came on top of the violations mentioned in the report, with 34 instances reported during December. Verbal insults and threats came second with seven cases. Other violations varied from physical assaults, the destruction of cameras and other working tools to detentions.
