Prime Minister talks science projects with Nobel Laureate

Egypt's interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Wednesday discussed with Egyptian Nobel Laureate, Ahmed Zewail, a number of scientific undertakings that the latter is eager to implement in Cairo.

The projects subject to discussion included the Zewail Science and Technology City, which Zewail managed to push forward following the 25 January revolution.

A statement by the Egyptian government said that the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Yehia al-Gamal, comes as part of the government’s efforts to tap into successful Egyptian cadres working abroad, with the aim of benefiting from their expertise and helping develop the country’s scientific research.

The regime of former president Hosni Mubarak was criticized for failing to encourage scientific research, a fact that forced many technical and scientific professionals to migrate abroad.
