Pro-Gaza demonstration blocked by police

Police blocked pedestrians from attending a demonstration in support of Gaza at the Doctors Syndicate, on Thursday evening. Plain-clothed and some uniformed police dominated Qasr el-Eini Street, forcing pedestrians to take parallel roads away from the syndicate, while the syndicate’s entrance itself was overwhelmed by dozens of uniformed police officers. Police trucks were crammed in side-streets on both sides of Qasr el-Eini Street.

An Al-Masry Al-Youm reporter had his camera temporarily confiscated by police, who deleted images of plain clothed officers monitoring the pavements. The officer said that "if we wanted the same freedoms as abroad, we should ask for permission before taking pictures that put the police in a bad light [sic]."
