President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a presidential decree on Thursday appointing Chancellor Hamada al-Sawy as top prosecutor, to replace Chancellor Nabil Ahmed Sadeq.
Sawy was first appointed to the Public Prosecution on February 4, 1986. He worked as a prosecutor with the Nozha District from his appointment until 1991. He was then transferred to the Supreme Public Funds Prosecution in 1992, where he continued to work as a prosecutor until 1993.
The prosecutor served as a judge in the courts of first instance for four years from 1994 to 1998, and then as district attorney of al-Zaitoun neighborhood during the year 1998/1999.
Sawy headed the West Cairo Public Prosecution for three years from 1999/2000 until 2001/2002 while he also served as the head of the Civil Status Committee in Cairo.
The prosecutor headed the Cairo Traffic Prosecution for three years from 2002/2003 to 2004/2005. During this term, he introduced the computer system to the force in collaboration with the Traffic Prosecution.
Sawy worked as an advocate general for the judicial inspection of the Public Prosecution in 2005/2006, as an advocate general for the prosecution of West Cairo in 2006/2007, as an advocate general for the prosecution of South Giza for three years from 2007/2008 until 2009/2010, and was promoted to become President of the Court of Appeals in 2010.
Sawy headed the technical office of the National Center for Judicial Studies before being appointed as Secretary General of the Center.
He was appointed as president of the terrorism department of Cairo Criminal Court in October 2013.
In 2015, he was assigned to the Technical Office of the Cairo Court of Appeals and entrusted with the presidency of the New Cairo Appeals Mission.
He was also appointed as General Secretariat of the Supreme Elections Commission, Chairman of the Complaints and Claims Committee, as an investigating judge in several corruption cases, and as Senior Attorney General of Cairo Appeal Prosecution from October 2015 until October 2017.
In 2017, in addition to being Senior Attorney General of Cairo Appeal Prosecution, he was assigned to manage the Criminal Research and Training Institute affiliated with the Public Prosecution, a position that he has held until now.
