Boulaq Aboul Ela Prosecution on Sunday opened investigations with the owner of Iranian al-Alam News Network, after the channel's offices were closed on charges of undermining national security.

Al-Alam owner, Ahmed al-Sweify, faces questioning from authorities on accusations he ordered broadcasting content that comprises Egyptian national security and using equipment obtained without proper licenses.

Sweify faces charges of running an institution without a license and possessing unlicensed equipment.

The prosecution ordered the closure of the channel's office and seized equipment and material found there, meanwhile asking the artistic works investigation unit to conduct further investigations.
