Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah tasked a 21-member prosecution panel to review a recent report by the fact-finding committee formed by the president to investigate the killing of protesters during the 2011 uprising.
The panel is led by Amr Fawzy, director of the Central Cairo Prosecution.
The report implicated ousted President Hosni Mubarak, as well as army and police leaders, in the murders of protesters during the demonstrations that forced Mubarak to step down after 30 years in power.
Prosecution sources said the panel would begin its activities Thursday, adding that people mentioned in the report would be summoned and interrogated.
The fact-finding committee submitted its final report to Abdallah Wednesday. The prosecution is then supposed to review the new evidence provided by the report against suspects behind the murder of protesters.
Fawzy told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the report would be considered a complaint, quoting the Revolution Protection Law issued by Morsy on 22 November, which orders fresh investigations into the revolution deaths once new evidence is provided.
Several former security officials had been acquitted on murder charges related to the killings of protesters during the revolution, sparking outrage among activists.
