Members of political parties and movements on Wednesday protested government violence against thugs and families of protesters killed during the 25 January revolution. The protests were staged in Port Said and Daqahlia Governorates.
Dozens of members of the Revolution Youth Coalition, Wafd, Ghad, Tagammu parties and April 6 Movement protested against the cabinet in Shohada Square in Port Said, north of Cairo. They called for dismissing Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy.
The protest began in front of the Port Said security directorate. After protesters performed prayers near a mosque, they marched across the city. In the end, protesters returned to Shohada Square.
“The revolution’s enemies and remnants of the former regime are still trying to put down the revolution,” one of the protesters told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Around 100 members with the April 6 Movement and the coalition backing Mohamed ElBaradei for presidency demonstrated in Mansoura before the Daqahliya Governorate building in solidarity with those injured in Tahrir Square clashes. Additional protesters from the Nasserist and Tagammu parties are expected to join.
They raised banners reading “Fair trials for martyrs’ killers.” They also shouted slogans such as, “constitution first before anything else”
A statement demanding Essawy's dismissal was distributed. Protesters also demanded investigating the Tahrir clashes as well as writing the constitution before holding parliamentary and presidential elections.
