Qatar to send ships to evacuate Egyptians from Libya

Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani will send ships to evacuate Egyptians stranded in the Libyan city Misrata, according to a Qatar news agency.

Around 3,000 Egyptians remain stranded in Libya amid violent clashes, and thousands of others have already been evacuated.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi said Tuesday more than 260,000 Egyptians have returned from Libya by land, air and sea since the crisis erupted.

However, Libyan authorities in Misrata have not allowed ships planning to evacuate Egyptians into the port city, said al-Arabi.

The Qatari news agency KUNA, which reported the news on Tuesday, provided no further details of the emir's plans.
