Several Red Sea divers and marine environmentalists launched a mission on Wednesday to save the life of a dolphin after the dolphin was caught by a hook and a fishing net in a poaching area. Dolphins are on the list of marine organisms in danger of extinction.
The divers and environmentalists notified the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association of the dolphin’s predicament, requesting information on the appropriate way to remove the hook from the dolphin’s mouth.
Diver Mohammed Hassan said that the dolphin was observed in the Grand Erg Occidental of Hurghada, an area that many bottlenose dolphins inhabit. The diver requested a quick intervention by the association to rescue the dolphin. Hassan warned that the hook could remain in the dolphin’s mouth for several days.
Several divers requested that the dolphin be injected with anesthesia to facilitate its capture.
