Request for information over sky high salaries for ministerial advisors

Freedom and Justice Party MP Ahmed Shehata sent Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri and the local development minister a request for information on the appointment of thousands of ministerial advisors with sky high salaries and bonuses, while regular staff members receive very low salaries.

In the request, Shehata criticized the ongoing corruption and squandering of public money following the 25 January revolution. He said the mentioned bonuses and salaries constituted an obstacle to the application of the minimum and maximum wages as the salary of one advisor equaled that of 1,000 regular employees.

He pointed out that the state administrative apparatus includes 450,000 advisers, earning an annual LE20 billion out of the LE85 billion allocated for the wages and salaries of 5.7 million employees working in the state administrative system.
