Richard Gere, Juliette Binoche to attend Cairo Film Festival

Organizers of the 34th Cairo Film Festival were pleasantly surprised to hear that Hollywood star Richard Gere had arrived in Egypt to attend the event.

According to a source close to the festival, organizers did not initially know whether Gere planned to attend, since his trip had been organized by an independent travel agency.

French actress Juliette Binoche also arrived in Cairo this week for the festival, but, citing travel fatigue, declined to speak to the press. She reportedly visited the pyramids the day after her arrival, describing the monuments as “magnificent.”

Festival organizers plan to hold a press conference for the two distinguished guests on Wednesday.

Born in 1948, Gere launched his movie carrier in the 1970s, becoming an A-list actor in the 1980s, when he starred in the film "American Gigolo." He has received several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for his performance in the 2002 film "Chicago."

Juliette Binoche is the daughter of French film director, actor and sculptor Jean-Marie Binoche. She made her debut in 1983 with a small part in the film "Dorothy." She later played a supporting role in the film "The Bells of Freedom," after which she began taking on leading film roles.
