Russia will begin constructing the al-Dabaa nuclear power plant, in cooperation with Egypt, starting on October 6 – coinciding with Egypt’s October War victory holiday.
RT broadcast the first look into the final preparations for the nuclear power plant in Egypt, before installing the first nuclear piece in the nuclear reactor.
The Russian ambassador to Cairo told RT that,“This will be a new symbol of our friendship with Egypt.
“After completing construction of the reactor next year, it will become the largest in the world.”
The first foundations for the fourth reactor are scheduled to be poured in November, after obtaining a construction permit from the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority.
Nuclear-powered cooperation
On November 19, 2015, Egypt and Russia signed a cooperation agreement to establish an atomic energy station at an investment cost of US$25 billion, for which Russia provided a soft government loan to Cairo.
In December 2017, Presidents Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Vladimir Putin signed the final agreements to build the Dabaa station during a visit for the Russian President to Cairo.
The Dabaa station will include four “Three +” generation reactors operating with pressurized water, with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts – 1,200 megawatts each – with the first reactor scheduled to be launched in 2028.
Russian nuclear energy giant Rosatom is building the Dabaa station with the best technologies and the highest safety and security standards, as certified by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
