Russian House Director to MENA: Egyptian-Russian relations ‘long-standing strategic partnership’

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, April 10 (MENA) -Director of the Russian House in Alexandria Arseny Matyushenko said that Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty’s recent visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin reflect the depth of Egyptian-Russian relations and the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries, which is firmly rooted in history.

In exclusive statements to MENA on Thursday, Matyushenko praised the high-level visit, during which the Egyptian foreign minister met several senior Russian officials, noting that it underscored the strong momentum in strategic relations across various fields.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event marking the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, he said political coordination between Cairo and Moscow has witnessed significant progress, as reflected in Abdelatty’s visit, which demonstrated both sides’ commitment to exchanging views and strengthening joint action on issues of mutual interest.

He noted that preparations are underway to receive Russian delegations in the coming period as part of efforts to further strengthen economic and political cooperation, in addition to expanding cultural activities for the Egyptian public organized by the Russian House as a center for Russian cultural diplomacy.

He underlined the depth and diversity of bilateral cooperation, which reflects advanced political coordination, growing economic integration, and cultural rapprochement between the two countries, reaffirming the strength of the long-standing strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia.

Matyushenko added that Egyptian-Russian relations are witnessing growing momentum across various fields, particularly in strategic sectors, including energy and cooperation in the Russian industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which enhances investment opportunities and supports sustainable development.

He further stressed that cultural and scientific cooperation remains a key pillar of bilateral relations, referring to the celebration marking the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s historic spaceflight, held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) planetarium, as part of an annual tradition reflecting the deep historical ties between the two peoples.

He added that Gagarin visited Egypt in 1962 and was awarded the “Order of the Nile” by late president Gamal Abdel Nasser, describing it as an early recognition of scientific achievement and a symbol of strong bilateral relations since the 1960s.

He also highlighted plans to organize a major artistic event at the Alexandria Opera House later this month, featuring a ballet performance, in addition to joint environmental initiatives with Egyptian partners, reflecting an expanding scope of cooperation to include development and environmental priorities.

He concluded by stressing that Egyptian-Russian relations continue to advance toward further consolidation and diversification, driven by shared political will and a strategic vision aimed at advancing mutual interests and enhancing regional stability. (MENA)
