The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasts that the intense heatwave will continue across most of the country on Sunday, with high humidity levels increasing the perceived temperature by up to four degrees Celsius.
A meteorologist at the Forecasting and Early Warning Center of the EMA, Manar Ghanem, said that the heatwave is expected to break on Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures across the country dropping slightly to between 35C and 36C.
In statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm Ghanem added that despite this decrease, the drop in temperatures will not be very noticeable due to the continued high humidity levels impacting the weather – but the overall conditions will be better.
The EMA explained that the expected maximum temperatures on Sunday will reach 40C in Greater Cairo and Upper Egypt, 43C in southern Upper Egypt, 39C in Lower Egypt, 35C on the northeastern coast, and 31C on the northwestern coast.
The perceived temperature across the country will range between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius.
The EMA advised avoiding direct sun exposure, drinking plenty of fluids, and wearing loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothing.
